Oct. 27, the "End the War Now" Mass March, Rally and "Die-In" in Los Angeles brought together a diverse coalition of organizations and several thousands of people together in the streets of downtown Los Angeles . People across the United States stepped forward and gathered in 11 cities - Boston, Chicago, Jonesborough, Tenn., Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Seattle to protest, demand peace and express their opposition to the Iraq war's continuation and Congress' failure to end it.
The anti-war demonstrators marched through downtown Los Angeles in a beautiful day with patchy cloths covering the blue sky and staged a "die in," to commemorate the thousands of American soldiers and Iraqi citizens who have died since the conflict began in March 2003. The "die in" was followed by one minute silence in honor of all killed in Iraq war. The protest was the largest in a series of anti-war demonstrations taking place in New York, SF, Los Angeles and other major U.S. cities, There were many people particularly young people who participated in this anti war demonstration for the first time. A young woman walking by my side asked me why here in downtown where majority or people are working class and artists. Why not Beverly Hills? One of the most energetic group that I encountered was the group inclusive of many children of all ages, women of color and older people; probably the most diverse in terms of age, they were wearing bright yellow tee shirt, representing hundreds of the bus riders of the City of Angel. The staged " die in " brought memories of air strikes of Iraq to Tehran during the 8 years Iran, Iraq war. The war of aggression by Sadaam, supported by his western allies... So, let us all honor the killed, heal the wounded and end the war!
